Department of Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering belongs to the strongest research-driven disciplines of classical mechanical engineering, as technical solutions are sought for devices that operate at extreme mechanical and thermal loads under severe constraints with respect to safety, reliability and environmental compatibility. Despite the comparably small overall contribution to the gross domestic product, this field is of overwhelming strategic significance with important spin-off effects to other disciplines. With 17% of the overall turnaround invested into research,it has the strongest research orientation of any industry in Germany. The objective of teaching and research at TUM is to support industrial innovation by excellent education based on leading-edge fundamental research.
